John Lewis has announced plans to quit his headquarters job with another 1,500 people in order to return to profits.

The retailer said Wednesday that it plans to cut additional jobs as part of its target to save £300 million each year.

“Our partnership plan sets up courses to create a thriving and sustainable business for the future. To achieve this, we need to be agile and able to quickly adapt to our customers’ changing needs,” said Chairman Sharon White.

“Losing a partner is extremely difficult as an employee-owned business. Whenever possible, we try to find new roles in the partnership. We provide the best support and retraining opportunities for partners leaving us,” White added.

In other news, the retailer announced today that executive director of finance Patrick Lewis will be replacing Verangelle Michel. Lewis is still the only family working for the company and is set to step down in 26 years at a retailer.

White said of Lewis’ resignation:

So far, John Lewis has announced plans to permanently close eight of his 50 department stores and cut 1,300 jobs.

“Before the virus hit, 40% of John Lewis’ sales were online, the company said in a summer statement.

Retailers want to create simpler, more “agility and flexible headquarters.”
