The contactless card limit on Friday has more than doubled to £100.
Returning at the start of the pandemic, the limit has increased to 45 pounds to reduce contact. As retailers change their technology, new limits take time.

“Contactless payments are becoming increasingly popular and the payments industry has worked hard to ensure retailers can provide new caps for their customers,” said the UK Retail Consortium CEO. One David Postings said:

“Contactless card fraud is at a relatively low level, but it can be painful for those experiencing it. You can handle cash in your pocket, just like you do. You should handle cards, so be careful when you don’t use it and give it to others.”
