“September is often the bumper month for EV sales, but even these statistics have surprised us. Ben Nelmes, policy director at New Automotiv, said:

“In many cities in Newcastle, Bristol, London, Oxford, Cambridge and Birmingham, one in five cars purchased is completely electric. That means that high levels of air pollution are illegally resistant to high levels of air pollution. Good news for millions of people living in one area.

“Our data shows that the market for EVs is very diverse and there are increasing numbers of brands and models that bring electric vehicles to the market. Among the fastest brands to electrify, Jaguar is the is on the table for three months in a row. This is a British success story that we can all celebrate.”

The growing number of charging points is attributed to supporting the number of EVS sales in the UK.

One of the biggest drawbacks of buying an EV before was the lack of vehicle range and the rarity of charging points.

Known as “range anxiety” because a terrifying driver has when he sets out on a long journey, it simply uses an electric vehicle for shorter journeys, as opposed to more demanding trips.

These are still factors in owning EVs, but the situation has improved dramatically, with currently 44,000 public charging points across the UK.

According to New Automotive, if you are on a UK highway or road, you will not be more than 25 miles from the charging point.
