Movement continues with a franchise agreement breach

The UK government will manage railway services in the southeast.

The news comes after a “serious violation” of the franchise agreement, according to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.

After finding evidence that £25 million taxpayer funds have not been declared, Shapps ordered the government’s last resort operators to take over the company following an investigation by the Ministry of Transport.

The transition will begin on October 18th, but the government has said it will not affect fares or services.

Shapps said: If trust is broken, we will act decisively. ”

“The decision to manage the service makes it clear that we will not accept anything less than the private sector, rather than absolute transparency with full commitment to passengers and taxpayer support.”
