The British Beer & Pubs Association (BBPA) warns that unless the government acts now, there is a risk that 300,000 jobs will be lost.

With pubs and restaurants declining in capacity and a curfew at 10pm, a new report from Consultancy Oxford Economics found 291,000 people at risk.

In a letter to Boris Johnson, the BBPA stated, “The 10pm curfew should be removed if it was intended or not adjusted to provide a gradual dispersal and avoid unintended consequences for the broader sector.”

Weekly sales at pubs fell 23% in the same period last year, due to new “rules of rules” and local lockdowns in effect.

Emma McClarkin, CEO of BBPA, said: “It’s important to remember that outside of the current situation, our sector is thriving. Once this epidemic is over, it will be key to promoting the desperately needed economic bounce.”

“The government has to invest in it now to ensure that we are still here to play its role, but for that to happen,” she added.

The government is under pressure to take dramatic steps and protect the UK’s hospitality sector.

The city’s hospitality sector, accompanied by local lockdown, was hit by its worst. Council bosses in Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester have warned that local lockdowns will “failure in mass markets, redundant levels of redundancy levels, boarding with exhaustion.”

They write: “The harsh reality is that these companies are facing the prospect of full decimation and full of trade decimation as they are looking at the traditional lifelines of the sector not only in the short term but also in the Christmas period, so they are aiming to get close to spring/summer next year, knowing that they are sure to know, and the high and boarding of the mass market obstacles, large amounts of lidonsea and depleted high streets and boarding.

Rishi Sunak has revealed a new employment support scheme, but after the Furlough scheme is over, the government is being asked to do more to protect jobs.
