According to the British Federation of Industrial Industries (CBI), labor shortages affecting various industries in the UK can last up to two years.

UK officials say businesses should hire British workers who do not expect to change in temporary regulations allowing EU workers previously assigned these roles.

CBI boss Tony Dunker says the UK needs to not only address short-term economic needs, but also reform in the long term.

The CBI has put a shortage on both Brexit and Covid-19, where the number of EU workers was limited.

More specifically, the food industry warns against possible price increases as workers’ wages need to rise in addition to surges in transportation costs.

Tomato prices have doubled in the past year, but vegetable oil costs are at the highest point in 30 years.

Darren Lovebett, managing director of Woods Food Services, a wholesaler that supplies trade in pubs and restaurants, said the industry is facing a “perfect storm” of negative effects.

“We are trying to absorb as many increases as possible, but like the rest of the supply chain, we cannot absorb these price increases forever,” Labbett said in the BBC Radio 4 Today program. I spoke.

“We’re also taking other actions: ordering more stock in advance and carrying more stock than usual. Double the lead time, which impacts availability to our customers. We checked if there were any delays due to a shortage of truck drivers that did not give us any.”

However, storing fresh produce is easier than ever, as it has a short shelf life.
