Nintendo’s profits have skyrocketed in the six months leading up to the end of September.

Japan’s tech giants’ demand for lockdowns has skyrocketed, tripling sales from 9.4 billion yen to 291.4 billion yen (£2.1 billion).

Nintendo said it expects 19 million consoles to be sold by March 2021, but that figure has risen to 24 million.

The group also doubled its operating profit forecast by 50%.

According to Industry Body UK Interactive Entertainment, gaming companies have seen strong deals over the course of the pandemic. According to the report, 45% of the gaming business has seen some increase in gaming revenue since the pandemic began.

“Overall, the sector is resilient and with a small amount of general support, it is in a major position to lead the economic recovery of the creative industry in the post-Covid world,” said UK Interactive Entertainment.
