Nintendo’s profits nearly doubled last year as the group emerged as a pandemic winner.
As more people stay at home and play games, the video gaming giant has skyrocketed from 19.6 billion yen in 2019 to 376.6 billion yen ($3.6 billion) in 2020.
Sales for the nine months rose 37% to $13 billion, while Switch Games console sales rose more than 10% to 26.5m.
“In the video game business, Nintendo is the winner of CoreNa,” said Serkan Toto, founder of Kantan Games, a gaming consultant firm. “The title is not only a blockbuster, but also a switching system seller.”
Nintendo’s full-year forecast rose 24% to 56 billion yen, with the group’s stock exceeding 3%.
