OpenReach has announced plans to create 5,000 engineering jobs next year.

Communications companies will hire thousands of new people as they deploy the next generation of full-fiber broadband across the UK.

Approximately 2,500 roles are found in OpenReach, with another 2,800 in the UK supply chain.

The new role is a £12 billion plan to connect 20 million homes and businesses over the next decade. This huge deployment requires offering upgraded broadband to one home every 15 seconds.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Clive Selley, CEO of OpenReach. “As a leading employer and infrastructure builder, OpenReach believes it can play a leading role in helping the UK build better and greener.

“Our full-fiber network builds are faster than ever. We are currently looking for thousands more people to build a career with OpenReach, upgrade broadband connectivity, and continue to improve service levels. .”

Rishi Sunak welcomed OpenReach’s move, saying:

“Through this crisis, it has been clear that our biggest economic priority is protecting jobs, so we are pleased to welcome this announcement of 5,000 new, skilled roles. We are pleased to announce that we will be able to: We are investing billions of pounds throughout the UK as part of our work plan to ensure no one is left without hope or opportunity.”

Boris Johnson has pledged in his election manifesto that broadband will be available nationwide by 2025. Since the election, it has dropped to 85% coverage across the UK.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden commented: “We welcome this enormous investment from OpenReach, which will help us to return better from the pandemic and create thousands of new, skilled jobs that will provide faster broadband for the UK people.”
