The UK Retail Consortium said retail sales were 13.1% higher in June, compared to the same month in 2019 before the pandemic, when it implemented monthly updates. Over the second quarter, retail sales increased by 10.4% compared to the second quarter of 2019.
Also, the restrictions on foreign holidays meant that money would be spent on retail purchases in the UK as an alternative for those who enjoyed themselves without traveling abroad.
Helen Dickinson, CEO of the UK Retail Consortium, said:
“A lot of people stay and spend cheap UK-based holidays, so many people have a bit more extra to spend in the store, and they have grown in the store in June, with huge growth in store in June. “We’ve done it. Fashion and footwear worked well during the sun was out in early June, but the launch of Euro 2020 boosted TV, snack food and beer,” she added.
Despite their aggressiveness in the announcement, several challenges remain as many companies try to make up for the lost time. A shortage of tourists arriving from overseas and people who continue to work from home means that many cities pass by fewer people.
“Consumer comfort in the next phase of the roadmap is key to continued success in retail. Many customers look forward to returning to a more normal shopping experience, but others are also looking forward to its return to the more normal shopping experience. may be discouraged by the change in the rules that cover the face. The government needs to reassure the public about safety while moving forward with its highly successful vaccination programme,” Dickinson said.
