One possibility is to relax immigration rules

The UK government is increasingly pressured to do something about the lack of heavy truck drivers causing chaos to supply fuel-containing China across the UK.

One of the Minister’s proposals is to ease immigration rules.

This emergency measure will help provide some of the 100,000 drivers needed to fix the issue.

Grant Shapps said this morning it would provide a government perspective on Sky News and not remove options from the table.

However, in addition to the long-standing issues, there are still issues surrounding driver testing.

Shapps was asked if the government would add truck drivers to the list of shortage occupations. This means that drivers from overseas will receive a special visa to allow them to work in the UK.

“We absolutely haven’t ruled out anything. We want to solve this issue, but we also want to see it resolved in the long run,” Shapps said.

“I’ll look at everything and move the heavens and the earth to do everything we can to make sure the shortage is alleviated with HGV drivers.”

“But we need to see what makes a difference, and the big question is testing the driver.”
