The new numbers suggest that London’s job market is lagging behind other parts of the country.

The Recruitment and Employment Coalition (REC) revealed on Friday that London is watching autumn while job ads are rising in northwest England and Wales.

Between March and October, job ads in the northwest increased by 36.8%, while Wales rose sharply by 33.4%. Meanwhile, in London, that number fell 18.7% over the period.

Matthew Mee, director of Workforce Intelligence at EMSI, commented on the new findings:

“Combining this with the fact that it’s higher in London than elsewhere in London and the highest rise in claims is in the London commuter belt, the restrictions since March seem to have had a greater impact on the capital than in other parts of the country,” he added.

The numbers show that the number of nurse job ads have been shot amid the pandemic. Since March, the number of active nurse job openings has increased by 39%.

Within the hospitality sector, bar staff posts plummeted at -48.7%, while chef ads fell by -45.6%.

In the three months leading up to September, the unemployment rate rose to 4.8%. “We’ve been working hard to get the most out of our lives,” said Neil Carberry of Rec Boss.

“But we know that there is always a job that is always born out of businesses that can do. As this data reveals, there is hope that we will be found in many places and sectors.”
