Donald Trump suggests that the US government should look into subsidies handed out to Elon Musk’s business empire, claiming it could save “a big buck.”
In a post on his Truth Social Platform early Tuesday, Trump said: “Eron could get more subsidies than any human in history in history, and without subsidies, Elron would probably have to close his shop and return to South Africa.”
In response to Trump’s proposal, Musk said in a post on his own social media platform X: “I’m literally saying I’m cutting it all.
The exchange will deepen the rift between the two men over the US President’s signature tax and spending bill.
When the Senate moved forward in the bill’s marathon voting session on Tuesday, Musk updated his attack on the law, which he said would lead to “the biggest debt increase in history.”
The bitter public between the two marked a dramatic reversal from the start of Trump’s second term when the president was entrusted with setting up masks as head of the so-called Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and finding government savings.
